Artist's Description
My Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) series features a number of interesting faces including both unknowns and the famous. References for chosen subjects are selected very carefully and are based on my personal viewpoint of an "ideal" representation of the individual. The subjects are then adorned in the beautiful, albeit macabre Day of the Dead makeup. In doing so, my hope is to (as the Mexican tradition does) celebrate the life these people lived and to embrace the beauty of the cycle of life. Further subject matter and color schemes are carefully added to reinforce the "life energy" I feel the subject would project in that frozen moment in time.
Here, Jim looks out at you from the great beyond... He even got a new tattoo for the occasion ;)
